Scheme Weekly News for 2002-09-09
This is a round-up of news and announcements related to the Scheme programming language, mostly taken from newsgroups, mailing lists and web sites that I'm aware of. Feel free to send me more. The aim is to publish in multiple formats on the web each week, but more on that very soon.
Initial release of GTK2 bindings for Gauche. Lots of missing calls, but developers are asked to test it and report bugs. It probably helps if you know some GTK2 already.
First release of the new stable branch of Guile Scheme from GNU. Expanded functionality, including more SRFI support and better documentation.
Guile bindings for GSL and LAPACK
(Download link) Bindings for the GNU Scientific Library and (to a much lesser extent) LAPACK. Includes fast implementations of a number of numerical routines.
A minor release of the "practical Scheme compiler". Contains improved hygenic macro support, the BDB debugger, a new shared library naming scheme and a SRFI facility.
Enhanced Emacs support for Scheme programming. Now works in FSF Emacs 21 and 20, and XEmacs 21.
A new branch of guile-gtk which only supports gtk+ 1.2 and doesn't require gnome. Allows access to the gtk+ toolkit from guile.
R5RS Scheme implementation for system scripting (and other tasks, of course). Supports UTF-8, EUC-JP, and Shift-JIS multibyte encodings natively. This release contains bugfixes, SRFI-30 block comments, module inheritance and debugging features.
