Scheme Weekly News for 2003-04-29
This is a round-up of news and announcements related to the Scheme programming language, mostly taken from newsgroups, mailing lists and web sites that I'm aware of. Feel free to send me more. The aim is to publish in multiple formats on the web each week, but more on that very soon.
A draft of this SRFI has been posted and comment is invited by joining its mailing list. A Collections API which defines a common naming scheme and set of operations for creating, accessing, and manipulating common datastructures in Scheme.
GNU TeXmacs is a scientific document editor inspired by TeX and GNU Emacs, but implemented in Guile Scheme. This version improves the HTML input filter (rewritten in Scheme) and introduces a MathML input filter. A reorganisation of the file management code began.
Seventh International Symposium on Functional and Logic Programming will be at Nara-Ken New Public Hall, Nara, Japan from 7 to 9 April 2004. The symposium is a forum for research on all issues concerning functional programming and logic programming. The submission deadline is 1 October 2003.
The 2003 Libre Software Meeting will take place in Metz from 9 to 12 July. The Very High Level Languages track is meant to show how languages such as Lisp, Scheme and derivatives increas productivity, quality, etc. Developers who want to share their experiences are invited to contact Fabrice.Popineau@supelec.fr
Expansion of the Scheme Bibliography
The "Bibliography of Scheme-related Research" has grown substantially. The collection of papers related to partial evaluation has nearly doubled, and now contains over 700 citations.
Schemix is a Scheme system, implemented as a patch to the Linux kernel. Currently the system can be successfully compiled into a 2.4.20 kernel, which then reads and executes Scheme code from /dev/schemix. Any output is written to /dev/schemix.
dmd- is a daemon managing daemons (or daemons-managing daemon) written in guile as a replacement for the SysV-init with a powerful and beautiful dependency-based system. This release adds docstring support and an "unkown service" service, as well as other minor changes. It was designed for GNU/Hurd, but has been tested on GNU/Linux too.
The Scheme Untergrund Networking Package is a collection of applications and libraries for Internet hacking, containing http, ftp, netrc, smtp, pop3, rfc822 and dns libraries. This release is a complete overhaul.
